**Updated II**

There is a proposal to draft a Senate Resolution to request a Constitutional Convention being worked out in the South Carolina Senate. At this date, this has been discussed and advised that the Article V (five) of the United States Constitution allows for the States to convene and add amendments that the Representation in Washington is refusing to address. While on the surface this sounds like a good thing, in reality it is a very bad thing.

Constitutional ConventionA Constitutional Convention has only been called once in our history and the result was a miracle in of itself with the present Constitution of the united States of America. You see the Articles of Confederation that were the “rules” (Laws) of the newly formed government after the Revolutionary War was ended had “issues”. Therefore, the States agreed to come together to amend and adjust some of the flaws. The result was a complete rewrite of the Articles of Confederation and the adoption of the new Constitution.

Currently, and they may present the resolution this week, there are persons in the South Carolina Senate that have been advised the the Constitutional Convention can be limited in scope to ONLY deal with the current health care takeover by the Democrats in Washington. This information could not be further from the actual truth. Once the gates are open for special interest to buy the ears of the representatives at the Constitutional Convention, we will have a new Constitution formed, and if voted on as approved, to forgo the Constitution we have operated under for the last two hundred and twenty two years.

The last time this subject was being brought to the foreground of our nation’s politics was in the mid 1980s with regards to creating an amendment to force a “Balanced Budget” amendment to be addressed. Here on the surface that sounded as good as it could be until it was uncovered that forces that looked to bend the Constitution to fit their desires and wishes were in play to allow for the dictatorship we are currently worried with come to life with the current and prior Administration.

Article V

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

To get this to happen it only takes 38 States to agree to the call for the Constitutional Convention. Then Congress NOT the States will be allowed to pick who attends. Do you really want to lay the future of our Nation in the hands of the current folks that just passed the most egregious take over of your fundamental freedom to choice your and your families health care? They bent and broke the rules to force the health care takeover on us as a Nation. Do you really think that these same traitors to our Constitution will uphold their oaths of Office and play “fair” in regards to a total rewrite of the Constitution?

Call Andre Bauer’s office today (President of the South Carolina Senate (803) 734-2080) and respectfully request he not allow a South Carolina Resolution for the calling of a Constitutional Convention. Contact your State Senator and request he work tirelessly to not allow for the passage of this resolution.

69th Annual National Convention of The American Legion

August 25, 26, 27 1987

Resolution No. 63
Subject: United States Constitution
Committee: Americanism

Whereas, The American Legion is dedicated to the defense of the Constitution, and the this defense must be conducted by any and all legal means against all enemies, whatever may be their nature; and

Whereas, Efforts are underway to convene a Constitutional Convention ostensibly for the purpose of effectin a balanced budget amendment, yet this could result in radical change or destruction of our current form of government by extending consideration to the Constitution’s entire structure; and

Whereas, Special interests have already made proposals for subsititute Constitution, therefore it is apparent that a dire threat exists to the Constitution The American Legion is bound to support; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By The American Legion in National Convention assembled in San Antonio, Texas, August 25, 26, 27, 1987, That it states its opposition to efforts to convene a Constitutional Convention for any purpose and specifically opposes the rewriting of the United States Constitution.

South Carolina’s lieutenant governor wants a national gathering on the constitutionality of the new health care reform law

**Update II**
It was pointed out to me by a reader that we already have a Con-Con Resolution put forth in Columbia. Damn it guys don’t you read the bills before you vote on them?

The General Assembly further and alternatively requests that the Congress of the United States call a constitutional convention for the specific and exclusive purpose of proposing such an amendment to the federal constitution, to be a new Article XXVIII.

The General Assembly also proposes that the legislatures of each of the several states comprising the United States apply to the Congress requiring it to call a constitutional convention for proposing such an amendment to the federal constitution, to be a new Article XXVIII which shall read substantially as follows:

The Co-Sponsor List:

    Richard,

I was supporting Grooms, but he bowed out to the big dollars folks. *sigh*

    Let us see:

Vote for a fellow that support Massive Inflation (printing of new fiat dollars) to bail out the Banks thus continuing to allow Wall Street to control Washington – Barrett – Nope.

Vote for a fellow that wants a Con-Con – um not too sure about Bauer either.

Vote for a fellow that really doesn’t seem to fully grasp law and rather sucked, imho, as State Att. Gen – McMaster – naugh I’ll skip that one too.

Vote for the Democrat – ah not this time fellows.

So that kinda leaves the Haley vote – but – she has done a bit of damage with quite a few in the Capitol not really like’n her. You know that whole “Get the Votes on Record (aka Roll Call) thing”. I really would like to see her stay in the House another couple of times, but ya gots ta do what ya gots to do.

With that said Richard, that leaves me totally open to voting for the Constitution Party Candidate – (chirp, chirp) — aka undecided.

    In Liberty,
    Daniel

Whomever controls this site please tell me how Romney’s book asks for more “Big Government”? I want citations in Chicago Style please. If asking for the Government to allow 4 percent of the GDP is big government then Ronald Reagan must have been a big government Republican. If asking for states rights on the health care issue rather than national health care, than I guess I have mistaken the writer’s intent. Ridiculous.
