This statement from Karen Floyd on the failed Voter ID Bill that died in the South Carolina Senate due to four Republicans who failed to vote on our side are the reason this is dead. We now have two years to get rid of Jakie Knotts ( Lexington, AND Vote Katrina Shealy), William O Dell (Abbeville), Luke Rankin (Horry) and Hugh Leatherman (Florence). Three of them don’t have opposition yet. If you’ve ever wanted to work for your country, now is the time.

Statement by SC GOP Chairman Karen Floyd on the S.C. Senate’s inability to break a Democratic filibuster on the Voter ID bill

“The S.C. Senate had a wonderful opportunity to pass new Voter ID legislation this year. Such a reform would have gone a long way in preventing voter fraud and abuse. We were all hopeful the Senate could move it past the finish line,” Floyd said.

“Unfortunately it was blocked by a Democratic Party filibuster. I join many other Republican activists across South Carolina in expressing deep disappointment that a Senate with a substantial Republican majority could not break the filibuster. Sadly, several Republican Senators simply would not join their Republican colleagues to vote for cloture. Specifically, Senators Leatherman, O’Dell and Rankin refused to do so. And while we understand Senator Knotts had agreed to vote for cloture, it was too late.

“However it is worth noting the Republican Senators who fought the hardest for this bill – Majority Leader Peeler, Senator Campsen and Senator Shoopman. We all thank them for their leadership and we thank all the Republicans who voted for cloture.

“We will continue to fight for this issue, and will not hesitate to make it known exactly why the bill did not pass this year.”

While Karen does point out the four Republicans that voted against it. She is not harsh enough, imho on them. Thanks much for the ones that worked hard to get it passed. Thank you Peeler, Campsen, and Shoopman!

This is not the first time this session that Mr. Rankin has stayed true to his Democrat roots and voted against the platform of our Republican majority. You need to just look at the Roll Call vote bill that he co-sponsored but did everything in his power to avoid detection and kill the bill.

Folks call his office and ask why he opposes the Republican Party so much? I will warn you, you will NOT get a call back. You will not get any acknowledgment of e-mails or letters you send him. But rest assured two months before the 2012 primary he will be all over Horry County telling you he works hard to keep true to his “conservative” Republican values.
