Pink Floyd

What in the world is this doing here?

*snicker* Well I am a great fan of Pink Floyd. Have been for decades. I took a night off from “playing” and posting banter on the site to listen to a bunch of Youtubes that are there and picked from some of the neatest and rarest to post on this “fan” page.

I think I will do this with more bands.

Anyhow, if you have never heard of Pink Floyd they started up in the underground bars in England back about the time I was just getting off my mother’s tits. The mid 60s were ripe for strange noises as bands experimented with different sounds. Mason/Wright/Rogers and Barrett were the original members that put out, if I’m correct, three albums together. In the later 60s Barrett had some mental issues that caused the band to reform with David Gilmore taking Sid’s place. The new Pink continued to play their own brand of noise and were featured in some avent garde movies of the time on the soundtracks.

In the 70′s the band exploded on the scene with Dark Side of the Moon. This album remained on the Billboard 100 list for more than two decades. The band’s The Wall album marked a major turning point in the band with the in-fighting of Rogers and Gilmore causing the band to part ways. During the 80s Mason/Wright/Gilmore fought Rogers for the band’s rights and finally won their court battles.

In the late 80s and early 90s Pink Floyd put out the last two albums and toured to sell-out crowds around the world.

A couple of years ago at Live 8 (July 2, 2005), Mason/Wright/Rogers/Gilmore finally got back together for a four song concert in England. Here is my favorite song and a tribute song to Sid from that concert. It may be (was) the last time these wonderfully gifted gentlemen ever perform live together again.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

I hope you enjoy!
